Distilled in 1990 at Uitvlugt distillery, this rum has the marque MPM, which means it was produced on the legendary Port Mourant Double wooden pot still. Aged 30 years, this was bottled in 2021 in Scotland by Danish bottler Rom De Luxe as part of the Wild Series.
THE BRAND
Port Mourant Sugar Estate was born as a cotton plantation and no precise news has arrived to us. According to Demerara Distillers Ltd it was founded in 1732 on the banks of Demerara River, even though no source mentions this name before 1813.
Its over 250 years old legendary Double Wooden Pot Still, is one of only two original wooden pot stills in the world.
Due to missing information, there is no precise closing date. Port Mourant distillery operated till the 1950s and its precious still brought to Albion. After its closure in the late 1960s, they were transferred at Uitvlugt where they operated till 2000. Uitvlugt was closed as well and the stills moved to Diamond, the last distillery in the country and property of the Government of Guyana.
Its precious stills are still operating and are part of the legendary ‘Heritage Stills’, jealously guarded at Demerara Distillers Ltd.
THE BOTTLER
