THE BRAND
The Habitation Saint-Étienne is a 19th century rum distillery that was purchased by Amédée Aubéry in 1882 during a period of decline in the Martinique sugar trade. He saw rum production as a way to make money from the oversupply of sugarcane. The distillery was sold to the Simonnet family in 1909 and closed in 1988 due to financial struggles after two hurricanes. The estate was later taken over by Yves Hayot in 1994, production was moved to Le Simon but aging process still at the original site where notable cask-finishing experiments were carried out.
