THE BRAND
The Destileria Colombiana was founded in 1913 by Don Julio Arango y Parra, one of the descendants of Severo Arango y Ferro, ‘El Dictador’, from which the rum is named after. Came from Spain to Cartagena de Indias in Colombia in the 18th century to improve the tax collection system in the Spanish colonies, soon discovered the rum, at the time currency of the region. Nicknamed ‘El dictador’ for his heavy hand and strong character, he became an important spirit supplier. The company is run today by Hernan Parra, also master blender of the distillery.
Production starts from sugarcane honey and the distillation takes place in both copper and steel columns stills. In recent years, the company started collaborating with some luxury brands, introducing in 2018 the Dictador 2 Masters lineup.
