THE BRAND
The origins of Diplomatico distillery, date back to 1959, when Licorerías Unidas S.A. (LUSA) was founded. It was controlled by Canadian giant and main shareholder Seagram’s International, one of the largest spirits companies in the world, who took full control of the distillery in 1992. 10 years later, in 2002, the distillery was sold to a group of Venezuelan entrepreneurs led by José R. Ballesteros Melendez, changing its name to Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA). The production starts from 10 different sugarcane strains even though three varieties, Romana, Venezuela and Canal Point are the mostly used. The distillation takes place in different alembics among which multi-column still, Batch Kettle and Pot still.
